“Optical 1” and “Optical 2” – Italian smalti, gold leaf, 8” x 8”

In this series of mosaics, I was playing with color and experimenting with creating light-throwing texture with the Italian smalti.  I have always been captivated with how varied human irises are and I was trying to capture how multi-colored and unique an iris can be.
